Doo-wop music, also known as an upbeat version of what
everyone calls "oldies" remains as a staple in my life. One might
assume that I enjoy country music as a pleasant addition to my ranch style
life. Not so. Actually, country music (unless it is an older version) gets on
my nerves. Just as much as my mom hates it when I blast "Sherry" by
the Jersey Boys through my computer speakers whenever the opportunity arises. (On
a side note, I hope the "Jersey Boys" movie is not a disappointment
compared to their music.) Anyway, there is just something about old music that
grabs me and I find that listening to it relaxes me, even when one of the
doo-wop groups hit some ridiculously high note.
Most likely, I can name just as many old bands as a regular teenager
can name hit pop groups. This is just one the things that sets me apart from
the rest of my generation. If I walk into a restaurant and they are playing the
Beach Boys, I can probably name the song. However, I am not an expert by any
means. An in depth writing about my favorite groups would require a whole other
blog, so I will list a few. The Everly Brothers (always at the top of my list,
I melt when I hear their harmonies), Dion, Beach Boys, Beatles, Chuck Berry,
The Drifters ("Under the Boardwalk" is amazing), The Chordettes, Ben
E. King, and Ricky Nelson. Now, I know most of these are male singers and it is
not that I have a crush on them. What I love is their music and their
willingness to branch out and take hold of a new sound and style. Rarely are
two songs the same in the way they are designed to sound. These are visionary
bands that broke the chains of typical music to find something fresh and
shinning.
I do not hate One Direction or any of the other pop bands and I'm not
here to argue whether or not they sound amazing. I want to share my feelings. I
think that music today is getting way too caught up in the same old same old.
It is time to follow a music revolution that could lead to something unique and
wonderfully different. So, in the meantime, I will stand by my oldies music,
devout.

I agree that most of today's music is repeating itself over and over again. I've never heard any of this kind of music, so I don't really know much about it. :)
